ABSTRACT
This project is titled “an evaluation of commercial banks contributions to the development and promotion of non-oil exports between the periods of 1980-2010”. The main objectives of this study are to evaluate the extent of the commercial banks involvement in financing non-oil export sectors. In analyzing this, the researcher formulated the null hypothesis (HO) stating that the commercial banks involvement in the development and promotion of Nigeria’s non -oil export has no basic significant contribution on the growth of the non-oil export sector of the economy. In evaluating this, the researcher adopted econometrics by applying Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. It was found out that the commercial banks involvement in the development and promotion of Nigeria non-oil export has significant contribution on the economy, hence the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis accepted. The researcher therefore concludes that loans and advances granted to non-oil export sector of the economy could be a boost, to the growth of the sector. Hence, the investigator recommends that the government should grant tax concessions to non oil export-oriented industries and encourage low interest rate for the non-oil exporters so as to stimulate the growth of the sector.
